Dog Bites / Other Animal Attacks
July 22, 2010 - A 2-year-old boy was killed Thursday morning when he was attacked by his family's pit bulls, Concord police Lt. Jim Lardieri said. Police and animal control officers went to a home in the 1700 block of Trail Creek Court at about 8:45 a.m. after receiving a report that a child had been attacked by dogs. Investigators determined that the boy had been home with two adult family members when he walked into the garage and was attacked by the dogs, Lardieri said. The boy was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Lardieri said. Police are working with the Contra Costa County Animal Services Department to investigate the case. Pit bulls are notorious for causing severe injury and death in dog bite incidents. Some jurisdictions even restrict ownership of pit bulls. However, it is important to know that any breed of dog can cause serious injuries to persons, especially small children.
